3 Reasons We Love Soy Wax Candles

3 Reasons We Love Soy Wax Candles

Posted by Faye on Sep 7th 2021

We hope your day is going wonderfully so far.

Today we want to talk to you about one of four favorite subjects: Soy Candles. We sell a lot of soy candles here at Candles To My Door, and there’s a good reason for that; we love them.

Don’t get us wrong, we love all the candles we sell, paraffin wax, beeswax, soy, they are all great.

However, today we want to highlight what we love about soy candles specifically and introduce you to a few of our favorite brands.

What is a soy candle?

A soy candle is a candle made with soy wax.

Soy wax is harvested from a soybean plant, which makes it a 100% renewable wax. Soy wax blends can include traditional paraffin wax, beeswax, or coconut, depending on the brand.

Soy candles a great for those with severe allergies

If anyone in your household has strong allergies or asthma, candle soot can cause irritation or coughing. In my family, this was me. Despite loving candles, I couldn’t enjoy anything that had too much paraffin or the wrong wicks.

Soy wax candles produce little to no soot when they burn, making them great for sensitive individuals like my childhood self.

Soy candles are sustainable

Soy candles are made from the products of a soybean plant, which can be regrown season after season. This not only employs farmers but also keeps soybean wax prices down.

In addition, the majority of soybeans are grown right here in the US. That means when you buy soy candles, you’re supporting domestic farmers, which is always a plus when you’re purchasing items.

Soy candles burn slowly

There are plenty of videos showing this off, but let’s look at why this is.

Soy wax has a low melting point. This means that as the candle burns and draws the wax through the wick, it does so at a slower rate. This allows soy-blend candles to burn longer than traditional candles.

Where can you get soy wax candles?

The best place to go, in our humble opinion, is our website’s candle section. We sell a huge array of candles, and you can sort by wax type if you are looking specifically for soy or paraffin candles.

There are plenty of soy-blend candles that include not only soy wax but also paraffin, coconut oil, and beeswax.

This means that each brand’s wax blend ratios will greatly impact the burning time of individual candles as well as how much soot they produce.

Let’s look at some popular ones.

Are WoodWick candles soy?

While WoodWick doesn’t use 100% soy, they do use soy-blend wax for their candles, meaning at least some of the wax is soy. According to the WoodWick website, they add a ‘small’ amount of paraffin to their candles, but no specific ratio is given.

Are Tyler candles soy?

Tyler candles use a soy-blend wax. Like WoodWick, they don’t specify exactly how much of each wax type that they use.

Are Milkhouse Candles soy?

Yes. Milkhouse uses a blend of soy and beeswax in all its candles. They also use cotton wicks to help reduce any soot produced even further.

Are Swan Creek candles soy?

Yes. Swan Creek uses 100% soy wax in all its candles and, like Milkhouse, uses cotton wicks making its candles very clean to burn.

Are Himalayan Candles soy?

Yes. All candles made by Himalayan Candles are hand-poured with soy wax. Additionally, they use handmade vessels for unique combinations.

FAQs

Are soy wax candles vegan?

Yes, in fact, both soy and paraffin candles are considered vegan, depending on the blend. If a soy-blend candle is made of beeswax it wouldn’t be considered vegan.

Can soy wax be used as lotion?

Yes. Warmed soy wax can be rubbed on the skin as a moisturizer. The keyword here is ‘warmed’ not ‘hot’.

It’s best not to do this with a candle that you’ve just blown out. The best way to use warmed wax is to purchase a candle warmer designed specifically for this purpose to avoid burning your skin.

Are soy candles safe?

Soy candles are as safe as any other candle. They should only be burned with supervision as they employ an open flame. The wax itself is only ‘safer’ than other candles in that if you have allergies, as we mentioned above, they are less likely to aggravate them.

Final thoughts

Obviously, we’re crazy about all the candles we sell, regardless of the wax they are filled with.

And paraffin wax has some great benefits, most notably the vast array of scents that can be blended into it. Not all scents are compatible with soy or beeswax, particularly sweet scents.!

That being said, whether you have a long-standing appreciation for soy candles, or you’re inspired by this post to try them for the first time, head over to our website.

We’ll be happy to match you with a soy-blend candle you’re going to love.

As always, everyone here at Candles To My Door is wishing you a wonderful day, and we’ll see you again next week.

See you then,
